Christie's Gets $77,000 for a '55 Chevy Pickup in Greenwich

That will annoy Christopher Sanger and Ruppert Banner of Christie's (not to mention their PR man, Rik Pike) because while they did get the astounding price of $77,000 for the Chevy, they also got $852,500 ($775,000 hammer) for the barn find Bugatti Type 57C Atalante Coupe and $396,000 ($360,000 hammer) for the very attractive and unusual Bugatti Type 49 Sports Coupe with transverse rear seat accommodations.
Twenty-six of 35 vehicles (including one motorcycle) were sold, a very respectable 74.3% sale rate. $2,396,020 (including buyer's commission) changed hands. The sale was more concise than last year when the Sergio Franchi collection was featured. 41 vehicles were offered, 77.5% sold and $3,147,138 changed hands.
Expect to see a couple other cars sold post-block. "The Birthday Packard" (bid to $120. 000) and the 1911 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost (bid to $580,000) both had money in the marquee and should have been sold at their high bids.
